Brief Information Diahann Carroll was an American actress, singer, and model. She achieved early success on Broadway, winning a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical for "No Strings" (1962), making her the first Black woman to win in that category. Carroll also starred in the television series "Julia" (1968-1971), becoming one of the first Black actresses to star in her own network television series, and later played Dominique Deveraux in "Dynasty" (1984-1987).
